- Documents
- Thorough knowledge of material production and its areas of application.
- Overall, better economic use than when using thermoplastics (high temperatures).
- Excellent adhesion to other materials.
- High dimensional stability.
- Good opportunities for everything from thin-walled to thick-walled constructions.
- Depending on the strong internal Si-O bonds, the material obtains high resistance to temperature, environment, and UV radiation.
- Recycling not possible.
- Cannot be reshaped after detailed finishing (not hot-formed).
- Blistering leads to deteriorated mechanical properties.
- Less resistant to impact.
- Difficulties in achieving a high surface finish.
Specific properties
This thermosetting plastic is manufactured from glass fabric impregnated with silicone resin. The material is rigid and can withstand high temperatures. Furthermore, the material has very good electrical insulation properties, especially at high frequencies. Please note that its mechanical strength is somewhat lower than that of other glass fabric laminates. The temperature resistance is high. The continuous operating temperature is approximately +200ºC and the material largely retains its mechanical and electrical values up to this temperature.
