Carlsson & Möller has good experience in accelerators, spallation and nuclear facilities

In nuclear work and in medical technology applications it is essential to screen the facilities from people and the physical environment around. These jobs generate both particle and electromagnetic radiation. The resulting radiation fields can consist of a combination rapid neutrons, protons, electrons, thermal neutrons, and primary as well as secondary gamma radiation.

Fast neutrons are most effectively stopped by a high hydrogen content such as water, paraffin or polyethanes which contain high levels of hydrogen nuclei. Through repeated collisions with hydrogen nuclei, fast neutrons can be reduced to so-called slow neutrons.

Carlsson & Möller has extensive experience of engineering plastics for applications in the electrical industry, and we offer plastics that are electrically insulatingdissipative or conductive.

Our boron-filled polyethylene plates, Borotron®, offer cost-effective solutions for the absorption of neutron radiation.

AB Carlsson & Möller markets the material Borotron®, which consists of stable polyethylene modified with boron.

The material can to a great extent eliminate the neutrons through nuclear reaction between the substance boron and neutrons.

These materials can withstand operating temperatures of up to +80° and +120°C.

For higher temperatures, Carlsson & Möller offers a thermoplastic with the addition of 20% boron and 10% lithium. This material can withstand a continuous working temperature of +200°C and up to +300°C in short-term exposure.

Materials can also be supplied with boron additives according to customer specifications.

Carlsson & Möller är medlem i Big Science Sweden

For many years, Carlsson & Möller has been an active member of the Big Science Sweden (BSS) network. BSS focuses on developing suppliers and connecting Swedish companies with customers in research and development. In Sweden, Carlsson & Möller is an established supplier to, among others, the research facilities Max IV and ESS, where we assist with application knowledge and components made from advanced processed engineering plastics.

We supply to international research facilities. For example, CERN is one of the many research customers to whom Carlsson & Möller delivers advanced processed components made from engineering plastics.
