Plastic weighs less than aluminium
In the aviation industry, where the aim is to minimize weight, reduce energy consumption, and maximize speed, every gram counts when designing an aircraft. Engineering plastics provide the solution here, as they weigh significantly less than, for example, aluminum. Components made of engineering plastics are also cheaper to manufacture, more resistant to wear and tear, require less maintenance, and are easier to repair than other heavier metallic materials.
